Police help FBI search home of ex-Dem official

COLUMBUS -

Police say federal agents have raided the southern Indiana home of a former Democratic Party official and another company has taken over his ambulance business.

Columbus Police Lt. Matt Myers told The Republic that city officers assisted the FBI Tuesday in a search at the home of former Bartholomew County Democratic Chairman Jaimie Johns.

Federal officials wouldn't confirm or deny that a search occurred.

In February, the FBI raided the offices of STAT Ambulance, which Johns owns. Horty confirmed that agents were serving a search warrant there at the time.

Johns said then that agents had interviewed him about his ambulance service's billing practices for bariatric patients and had seized records.

The Associated Press couldn't reach Johns for comment.

Seals Ambulance Service took over STAT Ambulance operations Tuesday.
