INDIANAPOLIS -

A 63-year-old Indianapolis man told police he was beaten in the street by a group of 10 men.

Police say Nicholas Snodgrass told officers he was sitting on an eastside curb shortly after midnight Monday when one of the men asked him for a light. The Indianapolis Star reports when Snodgrass replied that he didn't have a light, all 10 men began punching and kicking him.

A police report said part of Snodgrass' left ear was torn off, his left eye was swollen shut, his wrist was swollen and he had bruises on his face and neck. Police say he was treated at a local hospital.

Snodgrass was unable to describe the assailants.
