One convicted in Indianapolis party shooting deaths

INDIANAPOLIS -

A jury has convicted one man on murder charges from a shooting at an Indianapolis birthday cookout that killed two people and injured six others, but jurors acquitted two other men charged in the 2010 shootings.

The Indianapolis Star reports that jurors on Wednesday convicted Damion Martin on murder, attempted murder and other charges.

The jury, however, acquitted Devin Staten on all similar charges against him. Antwan Williams was acquitted on conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder charges, but the jury deadlocked on other counts.

Authorities said two men opened fire at the August 2010 gathering on the city's near west side. The 37-year-old woman hosting the party and a 54-year-old man were killed. Prosecutors believed the shooting was in retaliation for another killing a year earlier.
