A group of cycling advocates is planning a procession in South Bend to show that cars and bikes can coexist on major roadways.
A group called Bike the Bend is planning to ride about six miles from near the University Park Mall in Mishawaka to the City-County Building in downtown South Bend. They plan to make the trip traveling 10 miles an hour without any police escort. The procession is in response to bicyclist Steven Carey's death on Feb. 19 and will pass near where a car struck him from behind.
Yatish Joshi tells the South Bend Tribune the point of this event is to urge cyclists, motorists and pedestrians to co-exist safely and to be more aware of each other on the roads.
