New hospital facility brings more options to Hamilton County
A new hospital is joining the competition to care for your family in Hamilton County.
Jennifer Pettersen is a busy mom of three active kids and likes what she is seeing inside the new St. Francis Carmel Medical Center.
When it comes to the medical care of her family, she wants high quality service close to home. In Carmel, the choices are abundant.
"It's just nice to have a lot of options," said Pettersen.
The new St. Francis facility is less than a mile from IU Health North Hospital, adding yet another layer of competition to the rapidly growing Hamilton County community.
In addition to IU Health, St. Vincent Health has also expanded into Hamilton County. What makes St. Francis different is the size. The 90,000 square foot facility does not have an emergency room, but does have three surgical suites and six inpatient suites. The new hospital caters to outpatient procedures.
Operations Director Stephen Wheatley says providing great care is imperative, but with all the competition, it's not enough.
"I think what is going to set us apart and where we really need to step up to the game and what we're prepared to do is really reach out and enrich the overall patient experience," said Wheatley.
Scott Nie lives near the new hospital and is impressed with what he sees.
"I don't need a hospital right now, but if I ever do, it's good. This one is very advanced, very neat inside," said Nie.
This type of facility may be more common in the future as health care continues to change.
"At the end of the day, I think the patients are clearly the winner and I think St. Francis is the winner in that we have taken a very aggressive step forward to deliver on this new model of care," said St. Francis CEO Bob Brody.
