Gary mayor questions airport consultant's pay rate

Posted: Updated:
GARY -

The mayor of Gary is defending the city's hiring of a $350-an-hour consultant even as she says she wants to re-examine his pay rate.

The Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority has approved a six-month contract with former Indianapolis airport executive John Clark to help with business development.

Clark left the Indianapolis airport in March after his contract wasn't renewed. His spending on travel has been closely scrutinized and has prompted changes in the airport's travel policies.

Clark's contract calls for his newly formed JClark Aviation Group to be paid up to $5,000 a month. Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson tells The Times in Munster that the pay rate "does not sound correct" but says the city is fortunate to get someone with Clark's experience.
