Gun shop owner sentenced for illegal sales

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

The owner of an eastern Indiana gun shop has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to federal charges that he illegally sold guns he knew were going to a convicted felon.

A plea agreement approved by a judge in Indianapolis Thursday also requires 62-year-old Charles Ludington to forfeit nearly 4,300 guns and 600,000 rounds of ammunition that federal agents seized when raiding his Parker City store last April.

The Star Press of Muncie reports Ludington hesitated to plead guilty during the hearing, telling the judge he made a mistake but wasn't a criminal.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Rinka says greed got the better of Ludington and he made sales he knew weren't allowed from his store in the town about 10 miles east of Muncie.
