Demolition takes down part of Ohio River bridge

MADISON -

Explosives have taken down an approach ramp to an Ohio River bridge that is expected to be closed through the weekend as part of its replacement project.

The demolition Wednesday at the U.S. 421 bridge connecting Madison, Ind., and Milton, Ky., is part of work in which temporary ramps are to be completed to allow reopening of the bridge by early Monday.

Madison plumber Rob Williams tells WAVE-TV that the closure is forcing him to limit work trips across the river because the closest alternate bridge is about 25 miles upstream.

Resident Deloris Hurt tells The Madison Courier she's looking forward to the scheduled completion late this year of the $103 million project so she can again walk across the bridge about midway between Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati.
