Indianapolis Airport enrolls in A Child Is Missing program

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indianapolis International Airport has enrolled in A Child Is Missing (ACIM) alert program.

This means about 100 Indianapolis Airport Authority employees with IAA cell phones could have the chance to help in case a missing person is reported in the central Indiana area.

The ACIM alert program leverages a network of subscribers in an effort to ensure the early safe recovery of a missing child, college student, elderly person, or person with a disability. Upon request by law enforcement, ACIM sends alerts containing details of a missing person to subscribers in the area where the person was last seen.

Those interested in more information or in enrolling their own wireless devices can visit the ACIM website. Members of the public who wish to receive information or provide law enforcement with leads about missing children and endangered adults can call the Indiana Clearinghouse for Information on Missing Children and Missing Endangered Adults at 800.831.8953.

As of Feb. 6, 2012, there were 453 children reported missing in the state of Indiana, according to the Indiana Missing Children Bulletin.

About the ACIM

A Child is Missing, a Fort Lauderdale-based non-profit organization founded in 1997, was created because no community-based program existed for locating missing children, the disabled, and elderly (often with Alzheimer's) during the crucial first hours of disappearance.
