INDIANAPOLIS -
If you find you're trying to get by with less, and it's making it difficult to make your mortgage payment, there is an event today with you in mind.
It can happen to any of us. An unexpected job change or a cut in salary, and suddenly we're struggling to make our mortgage payment. Indiana ranks among the top 20 states with the highest number of foreclosures. One in every 700 households is getting foreclosure notices.
Or you may be in a situation where you'd like to lower those payments and take advantage of low interest rates. There is a lot of help available to homeowners who need it, whatever their situation.
The event is scheduled later today at the Marriott East where you might be able to find help.
Representatives from all the major mortgage lenders as well as non profit counselors will be available to help homeowners who may be struggling.
Erik Selk of the Hope Now Alliance says, "All the major lenders will be here like Citi, Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of American. Also, there will be non-profit counselors who can assist in the process. So after we're gone they're still going to be here and help you out."
All of them set up at the Indianapolis Marriott East on East 21st street from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. You register once you get there and they'll answer your questions and help you through the process on a first-come, first-served basis.
It could be you're looking to refinance or avoid foreclosure. There is also help for unemployed homeowners.
"You don't know what you qualify for," says Selk. "There could be a lot of tools you don't know about. I would advise those people, if they have any questions, any uncertainty, come down and talk to someone to really get peace of mind."
