SEYMOUR -

Engine maker Cummins Inc. says it will spend nearly $220 million to expand a southern Indiana facility and potentially add 290 jobs in the next few years.

Gov. Mitch Daniels joined Cummins executives for the announcement Tuesday morning at the company's Seymour plant. The company plans to build a new office building and warehouse there, along with adding a new assembly line and engineering and testing facilities.

Cummins vice president Rich Freeland says the expansion is being made in the city about midway between Indianapolis and Louisville, Ky., to meet its growing high-horsepower engine business.

The Columbus-based company now has about 525 workers at the Seymour engine plant and about 7,800 employees around the state.

Cummins launched an app to help job seekers. Download it here.
