Jennifer Hudson: testifies tearfully at trial

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO -

It wasn't long. But it was powerful.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson was in tears as she testified at the trial of the man accused of killing her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew.

Hudson was the first witness called to the stand by prosecutors after both sides finished their opening statements in a Chicago courtroom yesterday. She told jurors her family didn't want her sister to marry the defendant, William Balfour. She says they didn't like the way he treated her sister.

At first, Hudson was composed while answering questions. But she began crying when she spoke of seeing her slain family members alive for the last time.

Balfour has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the October, 2008 shootings.
