Park to be renamed for cyclist killed in 2001

FORT WAYNE -

A Fort Wayne man whose death while riding his bicycle sparked an effort to create bike trails across the city will be honored with a park named for him.

The Journal Gazette reports the city's parks board has agreed to rename a park after Ronald Repka. His death in 2001 spurred a call for greater safety near cyclists and led to a mission to build trails throughout southwest Fort Wayne.

The park will officially be known as Ronald G. Repka Memorial Park. The 3.5-acre park includes a playground and is connected to the trail system.

Parks board member William Zielke says the naming will help allow some good to come from Repka's death.
