Indiana's unemployment rate dips to 8.2 percent

INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana's unemployment rate has continued its recent drop as it fell slightly to 8.2 percent for March.

The state Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the jobless rate for March dropped from February's 8.4 percent. Indiana's jobless figure has been improving since its recent peak of 9.3 percent last August.

While about 275,000 Indiana residents were looking for work last month, state workforce development commissioner Mark Everson says he's encouraged that fewer people are unemployed at a time when more people are joining the labor force.

Indiana's March rate matches the national unemployment rate is also the lowest level the state has seen since the end of 2008.

Twenty of Indiana's 92 counties still have double-digit jobless rates, with the highest being Vermillion County's 12.1 percent.
