INDIANAPOLIS -
Eyewitness Sports has confirmed the Indianapolis Colts have told Andrew Luck he's their pick for the NFL draft next week.
While many Colts fans may have expected as much, it's the first time the news is being attributed to a league source.
General manager Ryan Grigson told reporters Wednesday the team has known for a while who will be taken with the Colts' first No. 1 overall pick in 14 years. Grigson didn't name Luck in Wednesday's news conference.
The Washington Redskins are expected to go with Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 pick. Griffin won the Heisman Trophy this year.
From WTHR Sports Director Dave Calabro:
It's another one of the 'worst kept secrets' in the sports world. The Colts will take Andrew Luck with the number one pick.
I am going to the NFL Draft in New York next week to see Andrew get his new Colts Jersey!
Last month, I went to Cailfornia and watched the college kid go through his Pro Day workout.
I was very impressed with his ability on the field. Luck has a very strong arm and he can move.
Andrew can roll out of the pocket and throw across his body. That's very hard to do in the NFL. I think you Colts fans will say 'wow' when you see him throw the ball!
I was equally impressed with Andrew Luck the student. He is a very bright guy but doesn't come across as a total brainiac. He told me he would rather take a math test than have to write a paper. He's that kind of smart!
So, thanks for the memories, Peyton Manning, and good luck, Andrew! The future is almost here.
