Greenwood man sentenced for not disclosing HIV status

GREENWOOD -

A central Indiana man has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he didn't warn five sexual partners he had HIV.

That sentence follows a three-year jail term 49-year-old Tony Perkins of Greenwood was previously given on similar criminal charges involving two other women. Defense attorney Carrie Miles tells the Daily Journal she believed the plea agreement was fair and that it resolves all the Johnson County charges against Perkins.

Perkins has been jailed since early 2010.

Prosecutor Brad Cooper says offered the plea agreement to avoid forcing the women to testify at a trial. Cooper says none of the women have contracted HIV.
