Purdue senior guard Ryne Smith will remain with the Boilermakers as a student assistant coach next season.
A school spokesman says Smith will help coach Matt Painter as his class schedule allows.
Smith shot 43 percent from three-point territory last season, ranking 14th nationally. The Toledo, Ohio, native finished his career ranked eighth in Purdue history with 169 three-point field goals. He barely missed a long 3-pointer that could have forced overtime in the loss to Kansas in the NCAA tournament round of 32.
Smith recently received the Lambert Award, presented to the Boilermaker with the highest grade-point average over the previous two semesters. The education major earned a 3.59 GPA over the last two terms and recently garnered his second-career Academic All-Big Ten honor.
