INDIANAPOLIS -
An ambulance from the Decatur Township Fire Department was involved in a crash at the intersection of Foltz and Mooresville Road just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
The force of the collision caused the ambulance to go off the roadway and into a building on the property of the The First General Baptist Church on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The fire department says the ambulance was headed to the 5000 block of Hector Place on an EMS run. As it approached the intersection, a van headed eastbound on Mooresville struck the ambulance, which was northbound on Foltz. The force of the impact sent the ambulance into the church building.
Heather Temple, 36, was driving the van, a Dodge Caravan. She said she did not see the stop sign or hear the ambulance's siren. She was taken to the hospital in good condition. Her vehicle had front end damage and spun around before hitting a fence.
Mike Davis, 37, was driving the ambulance, with Brad Davis, 31, in the officer's seat. Both were wearing seat belts. They were able to climb out of the back of the ambulance. They were taken to the hospital to be checked out. Both are in good condition. Both firefighters have been with the department since 2005.
The church building had damage to a garage. No one was inside at the time.
There was no patient in the ambulance at the time of the crash.
