Help offered for Indianapolis-area homeless

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Hundreds of volunteers filled the Indiana Convention Center Wednesday ready to serve the city's homeless population.

The one-day event provides nearly 1,000 area homeless individuals with services like housing assistance, employment resources, medical and dental care and much more.

Volunteers who once needed help from Homeless Connect say this service can be that extra push someone needs to change their life.

"I've experienced some of those same issues, myself. Not all of them, but it was an event like this, an organization like this that volunteered to give their time and energy to help me and that's why I'm here today," said Mark Nicholson, an attorney who was formerly homeless.

Homeless Connect is free and open to the public. It runs until 4:00 pm Wednesday.

Although this event is just for one day, the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention is active year-round. If you need help, or if you know someone who could use it, see their site for details on the kinds of services they offer.
