A southern Indiana county's commissioners want to donate $100,000 in casino tax revenue to five nearby counties hard-hit by March's deadly tornado outbreak.
Harrison County's commissioners approved the donation request Monday and sent it to the county council, which will discuss the proposal April 9. If the Ohio River county's council agrees, the money could go to help governments in Clark, Jefferson, Washington, Ripley and Scott counties apply for disaster recovery funds.
Commission Carl "Buck" Mathes, tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville that those disaster recovery funds require a local contribution.
Mathes notes that the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County and Horseshoe Southern Indiana casino had already donated to tornado relief efforts. He says "it would be a good gesture" for the county to make its own donation.
