Peyton Manning could be in the national spotlight for the kickoff of NBC's Sunday Night Football this fall.

The NFL reports that Manning's new team, the Denver Broncos, are preparing for a possible appearance on the Sept. 9 program. The NFL says there's a "strong chance" that the Broncos will be featured.

Broncos president Joe Ellis is preparing fans to see more night games in prime time as the focus zeroes in on the team's new quarterback. However, as Manning recovers from several surgeries on his neck, it's still not clear when he'll be back on the field. Questions over his recovery led to him parting ways with the Colts this month.

The Broncos had two games in prime time last season: a Week 1 game against the Oakland Raiders on "Monday Night Football" on ESPN, and a Week 11 game against the New York Jets on NFL Network.
