A possibly suicidal man kept police at bay for hours Thursday afternoon.
Indianapolis Metro Police negotiators and members of the SWAT team responded to a secluded residence near the 8200 block of Georgetown Road before 1:00 pm. The incident ended peacefully several hours later.
A call from the veteran's suicide crisis line prompted the police response. 911 dispatchers told officers that a 57-year-old patient told them he had a gun, that he was depressed and had been drinking, and that he wanted to kill himself.
Officers established a perimeter in the area. They saw someone inside the home and tried to coax him out, but he refused. A decision was made to call up additional police resources.
