INDIANAPOLIS -
The Lilly Endowment is giving a $3.15 million to the Indiana Association of United Ways to help southern Indiana recover from recent tornadoes and other storms.
The United Way group says will use the money to immediately begin recovery efforts in areas including Clark, Washington, Scott, Jefferson, Ripley and Warrick counties. It says it expects to immediately offer startup grants of up to $50,000 in flexible funding to local United Ways and in some cases to community foundations for each county affected.
The association includes 62 United Ways serving about 80 counties.
The grant more than doubles the amount of Lilly Endowment grants connected to the recent storms in Indiana and other states. It earlier announced it was giving $3 million to the American Red Cross.
