Courtney Moses scored 29 points and set a first-round NCAA women's tournament record by making nine 3-pointers, helping fourth-seeded Purdue pull away from pesky South Dakota State 83-68 on Saturday in the first round of the women's NCAA tournament.

It sure wasn't easy.

The Boilermakers thought they had taken control midway through the second half with a 16-point lead, but it took a late 12-3 run to put it away.

Purdue (25-8) faces fifth-seeded South Carolina in Monday night's second-round game. The winner earns a ticket to next weekend's regional semifinals in Fresno, Calif. The Gamecocks routed Eastern Michigan 80-48 in Saturday's first game.

Jill Young had 19 points and Jennie Sunnarborg finished with 17 as Summit League champion South Dakota State (24-9) lost again in the first round.
