INDIANAPOLIS -
Indiana disaster relief officials say residents in tornado-ravaged southern Indiana have been receiving calls from scammers who claim to be representing the American Red Cross.
During the calls, residents are asked to leave their homes and pay a $25 fee for debris removal.
Officials say the American Red Cross doesn't ask victims for money for disaster relief services. Residents should contact local police if anyone claiming to represent the Red Cross phones or shows up at their home and asks for money.
Anyone who needs assistance recovering from the March 2 storms is urged to call 211 or the Red Cross at 800-696-3873. The state's Joint Information Center says either of those organizations will connect storm victims with legitimate assistance.
