Tornado-ravaged school district eyes two sites for classes

HENRYVILLE -

A southern Indiana school district where a high school and elementary school were heavily damaged in last week's deadly tornadoes is exploring two possible temporary school sites where its students can finish out the school year.

West Clark Community Schools officials said Wednesday they are cautiously optimistic about finding temporary classroom space for the district's 1,200 students.

Superintendent Monty Schneider declined to disclose the locations under consideration, pending a Thursday night school board meeting.

Administrators canceled this week's classes after last Friday's tornadoes heavily damaged the district's schools complex in Henryville.

Classroom computers and other items removed from the damaged schools are in storage for now, awaiting the green light for shipment to temporary school sites.
