INDIANAPOLIS -
The Marion County Sheriff's Office says it's fired two deputies in separate incidents.
Ryan Radez is out of a job over the Feb. 3 incident during Super Bowl week.
Indiana State Police arrested Radez after a woman complained that he was repeatedly tugging on her daughter's backpack to get her attention.
Police said Radez appeared to be very drunk. The deputies who responded on the night of the arrest said he was argumentative, belligerent, and unwilling to follow instructions.
Officers arrested Radez. He was charged with public intoxication.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Unit conducted an investigation, and Sheriff John Layton terminated Radez's employment as a deputy.
"I want to send the message that this type of behavior is unacceptable and that I have absolute zero tolerance for it," said Sheriff Layton."I will give all of my support to the Marion County Sheriff deputies who do their job and represent our agency well. But, I cannot in any way allow an individual who displays this type of behavior to continue as a deputy."
Radez, 29, had been a deputy since February 19, 2008.
In a separate case, Matthew Prestel lost his job as a deputy after Child Protective Services were called to his home. His children were removed because of poor living conditions and lack of adult supervision.
The sheriff says Prestel was fired for "conduct unbecoming a deputy."
The incident happened on Feb. 18 when CPS investigators responded to a complaint that Prestel's children, ages 3 and 18 months, were living in filthy conditions. The investigator said Prestel was asleep and did not answer the door. When he finally opened up, the investigator said the mother of the children was not home and it's believed the children were unattended.
Prestel's firearm and other equipment were confiscated and he was immediately placed on leave.
Deputies said the condition of Prestel's apartment was deplorable, unhealthy and unsafe, including trash, feces, and food remnants on the floor. Investigators reported that they have pursued both criminal and administrative charges.
Prestel claimed that the visit was just bad timing and that he and his wife hadn't had a chance to clean the house that week. But police say other reports indicate that the children were coming to day care with poor hygiene, medical issues, and clothing problems for some time. Another unattended child incident report occurred on August 8, 2011. On that date, Prestel's daughter was found walking in the parking lot wearing only a very soiled diaper.
Prestel, 27, had been a member of the Department since April 4, 2009. Prestel's parents are caring for his children.
