SEYMOUR -

Indiana State Police have discovered the body of a man suspected in a shootout with a state trooper near I-65 in Seymour.

Police have been searching the area for a suspect who exchanged gunfire after a traffic stop Monday night. State Troopers say John Michael Fish shot at Indiana State Police trooper after being pulled over, then fled on foot.

ISP Capt. Dave Bursten confirmed to Eyewitness News Wednesday afternoon that the body is that of Fish. He said Fish appears to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but that fact would have to be confirmed by an autopsy this week.

Sgt. Noel Houze with Indiana State Police says a State Police helicopter made the discovery. The body was several hundred yards west of I-65 and north of US 50 in a remote area that is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle.
