A Fishers woman faces animal cruelty charges after her arrest for killing her boyfriend's dog.

Sarah Rust, 28, of Fishers, faces a charge of cruelty to animals, which is a D felony, in connection with a Jan. 24, 2012 incident.

A woman contacted police to explain that she got a call from her ex-boyfriend, who told her that his new girlfriend had thrown the dog over the second floor balcony of his apartment during an argument.

A veterinarian attempted to resuscitate the dog. Neighbors also gave statements to police.

Police issued an arrest warrant last week as a result of the investigation, and Rust was taken into custody without incident.
