INDIANAPOLIS -

City leaders are honoring the memory of a friend of the Indianapolis public libraries while ensuring the future of local children.

The City of Indianapolis announced Tuesday the Library Fund for Children's Programming.

The fund was established in honor of the late Donna D. Talley, the wife of City-County Councilor Steve Talley. After her death in 2006, Donna Talley's legacy began with a memorial theater at the East 38th Street branch where children can read, learn and play.

Now the library takes honoring her memory a step further with the Story Theatre Fund which will help establish literacy activities at the city's libraries.

"My wife Donna loved children. She believed reading was the key to unlocking the potential as students and also human beings," said Talley.

The money for the fund will come from Talley from his council salary over the next four years as well has a 100-percent contribution from his future city-county council retirement plan.
