INDIANAPOLIS -
A huge jump in gas prices has Indiana motorists feeling pain at the pump.
We have seen the price of gas going up and down and back again. It is enough to make you dizzy, but eventually, you have to get in line and pay up. And when you do stop for gas, you hope you are lucky to get the good price.
"I got lucky. Very lucky," said one driver.
"I came from the north side and used my Gas Buddy app and checked the whole way and this was the cheapest place," said Ally Vannoy of Avon.
There is a good chance you were not in line with Danville native Shawn Clark Sunday afternoon as he and dozens of other drivers tapped $3.14 a gallon for regular unleaded gas.
"Oh yeah, I don't even have an empty tank and I'm filling up," said Clark.
The reason the jump in price is going to hurt you later is $3.49 a gallon is a record price for this time of year. If history has taught us anything, we can expect another 25- to 30-cent increase by Memorial Day weekend and another bump in price mid-summer.
"I don't pretend to understand it. All I know is I'm here because it is cheaper," said Vannoy.
Then why the jump? Tension in Iran, bad weather in Europe and an increase in demand for gas in developing countries are given as the primary reasons.
Clark knew the prices were going up, but he got a second chance.
"Well, it was $3.13 and then as soon as I got off work, before noon, it was already up to $3.49," he said.
A jump of 36 cents for the price of regular unleaded gasoline in just a couple of hours, about five dollars more every time you fill up.
"I gotta do it while it is low," said Clark.
Because it can add up before you know it.
