Purdue dismisses Barlow, suspends Byrd

WEST LAFAYETTE -

Purdue has kicked guard Kelsey Barlow off the men's basketball team and suspended D.J. Byrd for a game following an incident at a bar early Friday.

West Lafayette police say they were called to the bar just before 3 a.m. for a disturbance and both Barlow and Byrd were at the bar at the time. Byrd was arrested by state police and spent five hours in jail.

Purdue did not say why Barlow had been dismissed from the team, but said that both players had violated team rules.

"This is an unfortunate situation, but we will move forward as a program," said head coach Matt Painter. "We expect our student-athletes to live up to a high standard, and when their actions become detrimental to the program, there are consequences."

Byrd will miss Sunday's home game against No. 7 Michigan State.
