GRANT COUNTY -

Police have still not identified the human remains found in Grant County last week.

Noblesville Police called a news conference last Thursday to announce the discovery near the Mississinewa Battlefield on 600 North. The announcement was made in connection with the case of Dorothy Heard, a 74-year-old Noblesville woman who went missing in June 2011.

However, on Tuesday, the Grant County coroner said the remains had not been identified.

The coroner said a forensic pathologist conducting a preliminary exam at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie could not find a cause of death, nor could the pathologist establish foul play.

The University of Indianapolis Department of Archeology will conduct another exam on the remains. That's expected to take several weeks to complete. Members of the archeology team assisted the coroner in the search following the discovery of the remains.

The university will submit a report to the coroner on the gender and age of the individual, as well as an estimate of how long the remains were exposed to the elements.
