Indianapolis is cashing in on money used by criminals to buy drugs and weapons. The money will replace what you would have paid in taxes, and goes directly to state agencies as a source of revenue.

"Any day that dug dealers are paying for a better and a more thorough and more thoughtful law enforcement in Marion County, frankly anywhere in Indiana, I think is a good day," said Joe Hogsett, US attorney.

The Safe Streets Task Force is responsible for the historically high number of arrests and drug busts in Indianapolis this past year.

The awards total over half a million dollars that will now go to Indianapolis Metro Police and the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.

According to Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry, the funds go into this year's budget and any surplus it creates will roll over into next year's budget.
