KNIGHTSTOWN -

An Indiana State Police trooper investigating a suspicious vehicle in Henry County located an abducted New Jersey child.

Trooper Rich Silcox noticed the car, which had a New Jersey license plate, pull into the CVS Pharmacy on SR 109 in Knightstown around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. A man got out of the car, looked around and went inside. Since the store had been recently robbed, the trooper approached the car and ran the license plate, which came back stolen.

When the man, 34-year-old James Toney of Indianapolis, came out of the store, Silcox took him into custody for felony possession of stolen property and suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

Later Saturday evening, a detective in New Jersey called Silcox after hearing about the recovery of the stolen car. The detective told Silcox the car was linked to a woman who had fled the state unlawfully with her six-year-old son and was wanted for parental abduction in New Jersey.

After an investigation, Silcox found the woman and boy in a home in Spiceland. The boy was taken without incident and will be reunited with his father in New Jersey. Authorities in New Jersey would not extradite the woman, neither she nor Toney have been charged in connection with the abduction at this time.

State police are using the incident as an example for calling police or 911 if a vehicle on the road or in your neighborhood doesn't belong or looks suspicious to have it checked out.
