Two injured in west side apartment fire

INDIANAPOLIS -

An early morning fire Saturday at Crestwood Village West forced some residents from their apartments and to a another building in the complex.

Wayne Township Fire firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block Welcome Way Blvd on the far west side of Indianapolis just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday on the report of an apartment fire. 

Wayne Township Fire Department spokesman, Michael Pruitt, told Eyewitness News that approximately 60 firefighters from Wayne, Indianapolis, Avon, Speedway and Decatur Fire Departments were on the scene to assist with evacuating residents. Residents were evacuated to another nearby building in the complex and management was looking for temporary housing for those that were displaced.

The fire was contained to one apartment but there was smoke damage to 24 units in wing of building where the fire occurred. Two people were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries.
