Fire crews on scene of north side apartment fire

INDIANAPOLIS -

Fire crews are on the scene of an apartment fire on the north side of downtown.

Crews responded to the alarm at the Meridian Shoreland Apartments near 38th and Meridian Street around 10:45 p.m. Friday. An aerial ladder has been extended to the sixth floor of the north tower.

A resident of the seventh floor heard screaming, saw smoke and went to the hallway, where they saw resident with an injured forehead. At least one other person was reportedly treated for injuries at the scene.

Firefighters say the fire was contained to part of one floor, though two floors sustained smoke damage and two residents were treated for smoke inhalation.

Two IndyGo buses were being used to keep evacuated residents warm at the scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
