Feds seize $5M in counterfeit Super Bowl gear

INDIANAPOLIS -

Federal agents worked with Metro officers and other departments nationwide to seize more than 50,000 counterfeit Super Bowl items worth more than $5 million.

"Operation Fake Sweep" targeted stores, flea markets and street vendors In Indianapolis and across the country.

Agents found fake jerseys, ball caps, tickets, and other souvenirs that violate copyright laws. Officers also shut down nearly 400 websites Illegally selling counterfeit merchandise.

In addition to the fake Super Bowl items, the operation also seized over a million dollars worth of counterfeit merchandise from other sports leagues.
