Super Bowl barricades coming down

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Like most parties, it takes a lot longer to set up than to clean up, and that's going to be the case with the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. The hope is to have most everything back to normal by the end of this week.

Streets that closed only for Super Bowl Sunday should reopen this morning.

That includes:  Missouri, Capitol and Illinois, all near Lucas Oil Stadium south of South Street.

But it's going take a few additional days to take down the zip line to open Capitol Avenue in front of the Convention Center.

Georgia Street, which has been partially open, still has tents and other equipment that needs to be torn down and taken away.

"It's a public street so people are going to their residences," says Mel Raines of the Super Bowl Host Committee. "They're going to work. They're going to eat. But you've also got some large equipment trying to load things out, so safety is our top priority if it takes an extra day for safety reasons than it's worth it."

Organizers expect Georgia open by the end of Tuesday.

Capitol and Illinois will take until Wednesday or Thursday around Pan Am Plaza.

Then there are those iconic Roman numerals on Monument Circle.  Today is your last chance to get a picture of the massive XLVI. The numerals come down Tuesday.
