Police report few problems in Saturday night crowd

INDIANAPOLIS -

Rain didn't keep the crowds away from Super Bowl Village Saturday. Fans seized one of their last opportunities to experience a city on a Super Bowl high.

"I had other obligations all week and I was seething with jealousy. This is the last night, I had to make it happen," said Anne Marie Hayatt.

It's as close as most will get to the game. With no tickets, the Lewis family traveled from Illinois to feel what they call "the Super Bowl vibe."

"Everything going on is exciting and the kids love it," said Elizabeth James.

The crowd appeared smaller and better behaved than last night's and made a big impression on brothers from the Big Apple.

"This is very friendly. Everyone in New York is too stressed out. Here, everyone wants to have a good time, they don't care where you are from," said Anthony Cipoletti.

Police deployed around the Super Bowl Village Saturday reported a relatively quiet night as cooler temps and light moisture thinned crowds.

IMPD closed additional streets to vehicles around Georgia Street to give pedestrians more room to walk. Some fans complained about long bottlenecks and thick crowds after a Friday night concert featuring party rock band LMFAO.

Police made some arrests for disorderly conduct, fighting and alcohol violations Saturday night and had to move some teenagers along after they refused to leave Circle Centre Mall at closing.

To deal with everything, IMPD held over its middle shift a couple hours through midnight to keep more manpower on the street.
