LINTON, Ind. -

An Indiana National Guard unit from the southern part of the state that was deployed twice to Iraq since 2003 is now preparing to be deployed to Afghanistan.

The Greene County Daily World reports that members of Company A, 1-151st Combat Team based in Linton, 80 miles southwest of Indianapolis, were alerted in December. The unit is expected to leave for pre-mobilization training at Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh in late July and will depart in October for Afghanistan.

Lt. Col. Eric Derue says about 550 Guardsmen from neighboring units in Washington, Vincennes, Martinsville, Jasper, Winchester, and Evansville will join the Linton unit for the deployment.
