FISHERS -
A woman is dead after police say she ran into traffic on I-69 in Fishers Wednesday afternoon.
It happened at around 2:20 pm. A driver on I-69 called in to report a pedestrian struck near the nine mile marker.
Police shut down traffic at 116th Street while they investigated. Officers found a woman lying in a ditch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the woman ran in front of a semi-tractor trailer. The semi struck her, sending her into the ditch. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The Fishers Police Department Crash Team responded and conducted an investigation. At this time it is unclear what caused the female to run into traffic.
Prior to the crash the Dispatch Center received several calls of the woman running in front of vehicles. The crash is still under investigation.
