Election chief's job on line in fraud trial

Posted: Updated:

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Prosecutors have begun building their case in the fraud and perjury trial that could cost Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White his job.

A human resources officer at an Indianapolis law firm and a builder and mortgage closing officer involved in his purchase of a Fishers condo testified Tuesday that he listed the condo as his primary residence on employment and loan documents. It's different than the address he listed on voting records and the license for his second marriage in 2010.

If the Republican officeholder is convicted on any one of the seven felony counts he faces, it would force him from office.

White has maintained his innocence and resisted calls to resign as Indiana's top elections officer.

The trial in Noblesville is expected to last into next week.
