The City-County Council passed an expanded smoking ban at a meeting Monday night.

The proposal, which passed by a 19-9 vote eliminates smoking in bars, bowling alleys, restaurants and hotel rooms.

"After many years of working on this proposal, I'm excited the Council has taken this important step to protect children, hospitality workers, visitors and improve our overall public health," said Councillor Angela Mansfield, the author of the proposal.

The proposal will now go to Mayor Greg Ballard for his signature.

"I encourage Mayor Ballard to sign this ordinance as soon as possible," said Councillor John Barth, a co-sponsor of the proposal.
