INDIANAPOLIS -
The first ever Super Bowl Social Media Command Center is now open downtown. The online operation has been a focus for the City of Indianapolis for months now.
A year and a half ago the Super Bowl Host Committee reached out to the digital marketing agency, Raidious, for assistance with the committee's media department. In February, Raidious opened the command center on Meridian Street and as of Monday morning is operating with its focus on the big game.
The purpose of the operation is to improve public safety and service to fans by offering information about ongoing Super Bowl events. While social media has played a role in previous host cities, Indianapolis plans to raise the bar.
"The big goal is to be the most connected Super Bowl ever, we think we're going to be able to achieve that," said Chairman of the Super Bowl Host Committee, Mark Miles.
The CEO of Raidious, Taulbee Jackson, said the command center will be an experiment since it has never been done before but that he's confident the project will be a success.
Fans and visitors will be able to post their feedback, questions or problems on sites like Facebook and Twitter and expect quick responses from the 20-person team monitoring the conversation.
"We just know that the traffic is going to ramp up dramatically during game time, so we wanted to make sure we had lots of folks there, ready to respond," said Vice President of Marketing for the Host Committee, Brad Carlson.
