Another group has come out with a television campaign against the proposed "Right To Work" bill.
Governor Mitch Daniels has repeatedly stated that Hoosiers overwhelmingly support Right to Work legislation.
"In survey after survey, by margins of two-to-one or more, Hoosiers support the principle known as Right to Work. After a year of studying the proposal, I agree," the governor said during his State of the State address last week.
But a two-day survey conducted over the weekend, commissioned by the AFL-CIO, disputes that. One-third of the 500 registered voters support Right to Work. Thirty-six percent oppose it and 30 percent have no opinion. More than two-thirds say the legislature should provide more time for debate, while 27 percent support passing it in the next few days.
As the debate at the Statehouse wears on, it grants more time for dissenters. Even some within the Republican Party.
Lunch Pail Republicans are running a 30-second television commercial chastising the governor and House Speaker Brian Bosma.
"I didn't leave the Republican Party. The Republican Party left us and by 'us,' I mean working class families and small businesses," said David Fagan.
Fagan is a member of the Lunch Pail Republicans. He says he's been a Republican since he was 18, held office as a Republican, but the debate at the Statehouse has him fighting against his own party leaders and he plans to take that fight to the trenches.
"We will have candidates who will seek to run for state office, state rep and state senator, because of the issue. They will be, in the next few days, registering and we will be 100 percent committed to those senators and legislators who support small businesses and working families," Fagan said.
For now, the newly formed group, which has already raised around $200,000, will continue to air their grievances on television statewide.
The legislature will reconvene Tuesday and the House is expected to take up the idea of letting the voters decide the issue through a statewide referendum.
