Teen injured in Indianapolis east side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS -

A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after an accidental shooting on the east side Monday.

Officers responded to the report of a person shot in the 11000 block of Essen Court around 3:45 p.m. Monday. They found the teen shot in the neck area, breathing but unconscious.

The boy was taken to Riley Hospital for surgery and was listed in critical condition.

Detectives investigating the scene were told that juveniles in the residence found a handgun. The child who found the gun handed it to a second juvenile, who accidentally shot the 14-year-old boy.

No arrests have been made due to the apparent accidental nature of the shooting.
