A northeastern Indiana environmental group is planning its 80th nature preserve.
The 21-acre D&J Eel River Nature Preserve will be owned by the ACRES Land Trust.
The property southwest of Huntertown contains forest and wetlands and lies within the headwaters of the Eel River.
Longtime landowner Judy Schroff donated it to ACRES last month. She tells The Journal Gazette the property is one of the best things she and her late husband ever bought.
ACRES executive director Jason Kissel says the preserve will be open to the public in the future, but for now it remains closed as Schroff still resides on the property and retains exclusive rights.
