DOVER, Del. -
The bodies of four Indiana National Guard soldiers killed in Afghanistan have returned to American soil.
The remains of Staff Sgt. Jonathan Metzger, 32, of Indianapolis; Spc. Brian Leonhardt, 21, of Merrillville, Spc. Robert Tauteris, 44, of Hamlet; and Spc. Christopher Patterson, 20, of Aurora, Ill., arrived late Sunday at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The four members of the Valparaiso-based 713th Engineer Company died Thursday.
Due to attend the ceremony were the families of the four, Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey, Army National Guard Director Lt. Gen. William Ingram, and Indiana Adjutant General Martin Umbarger.
The remains are expected to return to Indiana and Illinois within two weeks.
