INDIANAPOLIS -

Did you get a new computer for Christmas, or maybe a Blu-ray player or TV? The Indianapolis Zoo is giving you an opportunity to recycle those old items and get $2 off admission.

Zooper Bowl, as it's being called, is part of the Super Bowl's "First and Green" program which promotes environmentally friendly events around the city.

Recycle Force will be at the Zoo Wednesday from 2:00pm until 7:00pm. They'll take just about anything with a cord that you'd like to recycle.

Old computers have valuable metals like gold and copper that are in very small concentrations. But with hundreds, even thousands of devices, the metal adds up to cash and prevents an environmental hazard ending up in a landfill.

"Instead of throwing it away, and it creates this hazardous waste when it breaks down, you're giving someone a job and you're keeping the earth clean.  It's kind of a win-win situation," said Andrew King with Recycle Force.

Another benefit is jobs.  Recycle Force employs parolees who learn job skills and are paid an hourly wage.

The $2 discount for zoo admission can be used until April.
